Project Challenges

This build for a large games and entertaining space was part of a larger, multi-level, garden landscaping project, which we would be part of.  With this in mind, there would be a need to be in keeping with the grander plan.

Large trees with roots close to the planned garden room location would mean there would need to be flexibility in the foundation plan to move load points if necessary when the foundations were installed.  Additionally, the foundations would need to be sufficient to not experience movement from either the tree roots altering the moisture content in the soil, or from the impact of the bank and small brook to the rear of the garden room.  This was achieved by overcompensating for the building loads with more and longer ground screws to the rear of the building, providing a stable base to build the structure.

Site access would be challenging in this case, with no direct access to the garden and no possibility of transiting the large doors through the property to the site, which sat nearly 10M below the entrance to the house in the rear garden.  We completed this build in two weeks, thanks to a very understanding neighbour and the temporary removal of some fence panels.
