Our Proposal

Key Design Features

• 5.7m x 3.6m building.

• Integrated composite decking to the existing patio and the retaining wall.

• Vertical, charcoal grey composite cladding, contrasting light gey composite decking.

• Anthracite UPCV sliding patio door, two full height windows and an additional access door.

• 1.2 x 1.2m fixed glazing skylight.

Project Challenges

This building would need a suitable internal head height to allow comfortable running on an existing running machine, while also maintaining an external height of 2.5m to meet the permitted development criteria.  The building would also required a space to house a, yet to be purchased, standalone sauna unit.  The external decking would need to integrate with the existing patio and across multiple ground levels.

In this case, to provide the required additional head height for the running machine, we installed a 1.2m x 1.2m fixed glazing skylight over the running machine's location.  This was achieved through discussion with the customer about the internal layout at the design stage of the process.  Similarly, we held discussions with the sauna supplier to ensure their required minimum wall distances, power and access requirements could be achieved all before the build began.  The sauna, together with the AC unit we installed, meant careful consideration was needed for the electrical supply side of the project, especially since the home and an EV charger. Part of this was us arranging for a main fuse upgrade for the customer as part of our service.
